REDESIGNING OF THE GALLE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL TOWN HALL- BOOK 1

When you are fliping through the pages below you will be able to understand about the final project that I have done for my HND-Interior Design. For this we were asked to prepare 5 books seperrately so that it covers:

• Concept for the project

Through out this post you will be able to understand about my choice of the project and the reasons.

 Project Redesigning the Galle Municipal Council Town Hall is what you can understand by reading itself. It is redesigning the building but not the whole building, only the area which is use by the public. This will be a great opportunity for the public to experience more new design views.

This is project that I have waited to do. Since I thought this is a great opportunity work on it I started doing this as my HND Final Project. Apart from this reason the other major reason for doing this project is my great grandfather who was the 1st Mayor in Galle and also the 5th Prime Minister in Sri Lanka. Mr W. Dahanayake. He was a great person who serve the people of his village as well as the country. 

Other reasons for choosing for this project:

·  it is an old building

·  they always do the repainting only and few repairs only

·  most of the Muslim and tamil weddings are held in the town hall

·  the municipality office is also in the same building

·  not in a very organized form

·  the stage facilities are less in the hall means they are not up to date

·  most of the building around it are newly built and seems like not matching with the style

·  since there is a big development in the city and also lot of tourists too visit the city it is good if I can make this place much beautiful and attractive cause it is in the entrance to the town

·  also I think by redesigning the building, the function of the municipality council office too will increase

·  since there are lot of exhibitions are held I really think it is better if they can have 2 halls so that they can have 2 exhibitions at once or two different functions at the same time.

·  as the same place is being used for different purposes specially the stage has got damaged.

·  not air conditioned.

Whom to serve: the people  who visit there for the functions

Funds: mainly from the municipal council

How the municipal generate money from it: the municipality generate money through the functions that are held in these halls. So if they can increase the number of functions that are held they can earn money more. As it is planned to add another hall, there will be 3 halls to have functions. and the main hall is going to converted to a fully AC auditorium the number of people who are going to come to watch musical shows, dramas will increase.
